Post subject: Raid selection and the falability of humans. Posted: Fri Mar 05, 2010 1:49 pm |

Crisis is not a hardcore raiding guild. We just don't have the drive to wipe for hours and hours on a single boss. We have pretty much always been a guild that has put friends and fun before hardcore progression. We're not a bunch of raiders who are only known by their toon name, it's gearscore, and it's threat/heals/damage per second output. We prefer to be on a first name basis. And let's face it saying "Hi Pat" is a whole lot easier to type out than "Hi Alextreebuuk." Crisis is at a tough point in terms of raiders right now. We simply have so many! It's great to log in and see 25+ people on. It used to be that a 10-man Naxx run was iffy as to whether it was going to happen. Now we're at a point where we unfortunately cannot take everyone on every run. We are trying though. For ICC10 we now have three groups. Group1 is our hardcore progression group which is a fairly set group of people. Group2 is my group that I try to rotate people through as much as possible. Group3 will probably be much the same as Group2. This week we just tried our first ICC25 run. The officers and raid leaders are trying to accommodate as many raiders as possible, but there are just only so many people willing to setup and lead raids and only so many nights of the week. Unfortunately accidents happen. People get looked over during raid selection. There might be a couple people throwing out invites to the same raid. People getting invites might be AFK and miss the invite. It happens. We're all human. So if you don't get invited to a raid, I implore you that instead of simply throwing a /gquit out there and stomping off to another guild, ask the raid leader why you didn't get an invite. There is probably a very simple explanation with a simple solution. As I explained in my other wall of text, setting up a raid is a precarious balance game of combining the right personal skill levels and class abilities while trying to also make sure that you're including everyone in the guild equally. It's not an easy task by any means. This is not an "Oh my position as a raid leader is sooooo difficult. Cry for me" plea. It is just to let the raiding members of Crisis know that the officers and raid leaders are doing their best to make sure that everyone is having fun, but the task at hand is tough and mistakes do get made. So try to bear with us. Crisis has had a fairly big influx of raiders as of late. It's going to take time to get everything flowing properly. Think of this point in Crisis as being like a baby teething. It's tough for awhile, but after it's a distant memory and it's like it never even happened.

I agree with Adam. Your observations and sentiments are well stated.
Yet, I am still left concerned. More at the perceptions of what is happening, and the continual misunderstandings.
It's led to some frustration and I am trying to deal with it the best I can, as I know it is strictly my own thoughts and worries fueling these concerns, and I should have a more "que sera, sera" attitude. I'm working on it.
As I've mentioned to others, we are indeed going through some growing pains and it will work itself out.
As much as I love endgame content, to have it be detrimental to good times and friendships is not worth it. Not in the least.
Hang in there Richard, and well done on doing your best to be as fair and inclusive as you can.

Well Jo, here is where I really wish that more people used these forums. Misunderstandings and possibly incorrect perceptions (by anyone involved) can be explained and worked through far more easily if everyone can easily get their full say, something which isn't so easy to do on vent.
It doesn't help that if someone does have a concern and they bring it up in vent, it's only that particular group of raiders that will be involved. So there is a large group of people that get left out of that conversation. Talking about it in guild chat doesn't work so well because things can get so confusing with several people trying to say things at once. That leaves two main options: people say nothing, letting things bottle up until they suddenly /gquit, or using the forums. Unfortunately lately it seems like people prefer to go the first route.
I'm trying to be as transparent as possible. But again it means that people have to come here and read what I have to say about the situation. It makes it difficult to give people what they want (information on what's going on) when they won't come get it. Or when they do, they say nothing. This thread has had 30 views, but only 2 replies... But like you said, things will work themselves out. I personally think we're over the worst of it though. Having raids be scheduled and subsequently not having enough people to have a full Crisis raid tells me that possibly people aren't so keen on raiding ICC? Maybe people just don't want to deal with any possible drama? I don't know. Only time will tell.
